British Rail's Western region elected to dieselize with locomotives having hydraulic, rather than electric, transmissions. The resulting classes were interesting, but short lived. D-1030, Western Musketeer, was one of 74 units rated at 2700 hp. A few are preserved and they remain as beloved by the UK rail enthusiast community as Alco PAs are in the US.
