Phil Hastings photos in Trains Magazine, were all the education needed, to handle steam on New Hampshire branch lines. After crossing Todd Pond, ex-CNR 47 will encounter a lot of trees and then Newbury Cut, before beginning the scenic run along the shore of Sunapee Lake at Newbury, NH.

Newbury Cut on the C&C and Warren Cut on the BC&M were pre-nitroglycerine excavations and, as a result, have very little clearance. They were a real problem for snowplows since there was nowhere to put the snow
