POED Crossing Over Bridge Street in Westford MA

This was Sunday's POED with an interesting GMTX "Mother / Slug" set. Two exCSX C40-8's provided the power with MEC 7528 (patched nose) and MEC 7594 (no patches).

A little digging on the "Slug". The Slug once wore a high hood built for N&W as their 1342, and serial number #31882. It was in good company, since Pan Am owns ex N&W high hoods #31876 and #31884 a.k.a MEC 370 and 371 respectively. The Slug went south to Alabama Gulf Coast and Georgia Southwestern, and that's where the high short hood got chopped.

"Mom" was built as a GP40 for the B&O, sold to LLPX, then sold again to St. Lawrence & Atlantic as their 3002, then sold back to GMTX to be Mother to a fine Slug. Somewhere Mom was rebuilt at least once to GP40-2 standards before the slug.

Research is fun. Here, this pair could be getting shipped back to the GMTX shops in St. Louis with alleged main generator issues on the Mother, or shipped to Vermont Railway for trials for OMYA plant work. Both the Mother/Slug were working the Sappi Runs in Central Maine for Pan Am, perhaps observing any potential fuel savings with this pair.
