Surprise on the Framingham secondary.

Mass Coastal GP50 2010 working on the Framingham secondary. It's been there for a few weeks now, pulling Mass DOT cars that get filled with ballast at the West Mill St. crossing in Medfield. Given that this is a CSX line, it was a little surprising to see this engine here. UPDATE: Thanks to John Barlow, I learned that although CSX runs daily freight over this line, It's actually now owned by the state.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

CSX sold the Framingham Secondary to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in June 2015 for $23M so that the Walpole - Foxborough segment could be developed for weekday commuter service (among other reasons), While CSX has the freight rights on the line MassDoT has outsourced dispatching (and apparently MoW) operations to Iowa Pacific's Mass Coastal RR.
