As the Central Vermont freight from St. Albans pauses outside, the historic station at White River Junction glows in the darkness. Amtrak's southbound Montrealer will be along shortly.

This is where my father used to pick me up when I came home from college1957-63. It was overnight and arrived at around 5am in the morning. Then we drove back to Plymouth over the Dorchester Road, often to see a vivid display of the Northern Lights.
