Amtrak's Floridian: Long Ago and Far Away

AMTK 647 and AMTK 630 (SDP40F's) lead Amtrak's Miami-to-Chicago Floridian across the IHB at Hammond crossing on the final leg of its journey to Chicago. At this point the train is coming off of the L&N's former Monon trackage from Louisville. At the time of the photo the Floridian had about 3 1/4 years of life ahead of it; it would vanish in October, 1979.
