The William B. Pollock Co. in Youngstown, OH built hot metal cars (cars designed to transport molten iron) for the steel industry. There were three major types of cars. This type, the open top, is the oldest type. \r

The ladle just sits on the carbody by gravity, and could be picked up by an overhead crane for emptying elsewhere, or could be tilted on the car body for emptying. Acquired from Ellwood Engineered Castings in the early 1990s this car is a well preserved example of the heavy industrial equipment once built in the Youngstown area.
