The yard parallels the Mississippi River north and south on what was once the Yazoo Delta yard. The Yazoo Delta ran from Memphis (250 miles north) to Louisiana (100 miles south), but now only about 8-10 miles north and 4-6 miles south of Vicksburg are industrial tracks. The east-west line from Jackson, Mississippi to Monroe, Louisiana sees heavy traffic.
