30 Years Ago, and Way, Way Down the Line..

... This would not have been an unusual sight when taking the "B & M" into Boston from the northern suburbs. The Budd RDC cars were the mainstay of these commuter rail lines for years. The "Budd Liners" were once self propelled, though as they aged, their engines failed, most were de-motorized, and it was common to see a locomotive providing the power to move these long lived chariots of the rails ! The 'bud' of these "Budds" is the Hobo's #302, a GP7 built in 1950. Taken at the Winnipesaukee Scenic in Meredith NH.
