The pride of Doyle McCormack's stable of classic rolling stock -- Nickel Plate PA1 #190 and RSD5 #324 -- catch the afternoon sun outside the new Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland.

The 190 is a former Santa Fe unit, #62L, that went on to serve the Delaware & Hudson and Mexico's Pacific Railway before being repatriated to the U.S. in 2000.

The 324 is a former Utah Railway unit that is not only operational, it did, in fact, haul the rolling stock over from the old Brooklyn Yard roundhouse June 26, 2012 when it was vacated ahead of a June 30 deadline.

The 324's train included the PA1, a steam generator car, two passenger cars, an auxiliary water tender, and the three steam locomotives owned by the city of Portland -- former SP GS4 4-8-4 #4449, former SP&S 4-8-4 #700, and former OR&N (UP) 4-6-2 #197.

The locomotives were sitting underneath the flyover for Portland Streetcar's east side extension. The new streetcar line, which opened Sep. 22, connects to the existing streetcar route near Union Station and serves the Rose Quarter sports complex, the Lloyd Center business district, the Oregon Convention Center, Central Eastside industrial district and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

The streetcar's OMSI stop is adjacent to the new rail heritage center. In September 2015, TriMet opened a new stop next to the Heritage Center as part of its Portland-Milwaukie light rail line.
