Eastern Maine Railroad Mattawamkeag Bridge over Penobscot River

The old CP bridge over the Penobscot at 'Keag has intrigued me for a couple years now and I have a thoery why there is a top to it....looking at the right at the power lines there are markers for aircraft...perhaps this bridge had markers on it as well? Anyone know the real answer? Photo was taken on my exploration of the MEC form Bangor to 'Keag in 2010....don't forget the bug spray!
