Removing the B&ML's last "ties" to Belfast, ME

With the demolition of the BML's 1946 engine house on June 21, 2011, the final "ties" to Belfast of the train yard established on the city's waterfront in 1870 was a pile of wooden ties to which the yard's tracks and switches had once been spiked. They were hauled away on July 15, 2011, thus breaking the last physical "ties" of the B&ML to the city whose name it has born since the road's charter was signed in 1867 by Maine Gov. Joshua Chamberlain, who as Colonel of the 20th Maine was the heroic commander of the Union forces at the Battle of Little Round Top at Gettysburg just four years earlier. (Nine images of the actual demolition of the engine house, posted on June 21, 2011, are included in the images of the B&ML in this archive.)
