Steam Off The MainlineThe White Mountain Central Railroad Kancamagus Shop crew completed the rebuilding of excursion car "Pommer" recently thus freeing up floor space in the shop. In a race against time and melting snow, it was decided to operate the 1914 steam Lombard log hauler. It was moved from the display area into the shop.
Work and testing restored the unit to, operating condition for the first time in 10 years on the weekend of March 19-20. On the 18th a front end loader stockpiled snow. Saturday morning the pay loader spread snow for several hundred feet parallel to Route 3 north of the Clark's Trading Post parking area. Young and old alike braved the windy cold to see and ride on this "Dinosaur" of the North Woods.
