Stuffed and Mounted Wabash

Wabash E8 #1008 operated on the likes of the "Blue Bird", "Banner Blue" and "Wabash Cannonball" during its career in the midwest.

After Wabash became part of Norfolk & Western in 1964, the railroad's passenger cab units were gradually retired in favor of passenger train-capable GPs.

The 1008 survived to become a display at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, where it is shown in 1975.

The E8 was EMD's 10,000th unit when it was built.

Photographed by Thomas McCann, 1975.
Added to the photo archive by Thomas McCann, July 9, 2010.
Railroad: Wabash.
