DB Class 221A Deutsche Bundesbahn Class 221 diesel-hydraulic leads a regional train into Hamburg Hauptbahnhof on the line from Berlin.
The Class 221s, built between 1963 and 1965, were upgraded versions of the Class 200 (also known as the V200), which were part of of DB's shift to dieselization beginning in the late 1950s.
DB operated Class 221s until 1984. Several examples of the class are now preserved in museums around Germany.
A version of the Class 200 was built in Great Britain in the early 1960s as part of British Rail's own large-scale dieselization.
These served on the Great Western Region, and were known as the "Warship" class, with its members being named after famous British warships.
