NORFOLK & WESTERN COAL TRAIN

N&W Class A 2-6-6-4 1228 leads an eastbound out of Roanoke. There is a Y-6 2-8-8-2 pushing in the rear but the grade is favorable here and neither locomotive is working hard despite the long train of coal. I shot it from the 5th St. bridge.

Photographed by EDWARD OZOG, May 5, 1957.
Added to the photo archive by Edward Ozog, March 1, 2010.
Railroad: Norfolk and Western Railroad.
