UNIQUE

Many Pennsy fans may not recognize this location as Matawan, New Jersey. The date is November 29, 1983 when the GG-1's were retired with a well-deserved party held at Matawan. The location is unique because the line south of South Amboy had only recently been electrified and GG-1's were not operated to Matawan. (Reportedly one was used in an emergency.) I do not remember the particulars but I recall that several free trips were run to South Amboy and some of the New York trains were pulled by the last GG-1's. The "Parlor Car" is one of the cars used by the commuter clubs that operated at the time. The GG-1 is in heritage livery that had been applied some time before this date.
