NEW HAVEN FAN EXTRA AT PUTNAM

DL 109 Number 0700 is in the lead. I rode this fan trip in May 1956. It originated at Boston, ran to Providence via the East Side Tunnel, then visited the Charles Street roundhouse, proceeded to Worcester from where it ran to Willimantic over the Norwhich & Worcester, and then reached Hartford for a run over the Valley line to Old Saybrook followed by a fast trip up the Shoreline to Boston. The hard part, as I recall, was getting the train around a tight curve that ran through the Worcester yard to connect the P&W and N&W lines. There were trainmen on the ground watching the wheels as the train moved at a walk around the curve.
