GRAND TRUNK S-1-f 2-8-2 IN PORTLAND, MAINE

GT 3406 (Schenectady 1913-1959) pulled the last steam powered fast freight No. 493 from Portland to Island Pond on April 13, 1956, several days before I photographed her on April 22. On June 15th she pulled the last steam powered Portland-Gorham local freight and reportedly was still on the active list until October 4 when she left Island Pond for Montreal under steam and probable use on the CN. GT was the legal name for CN lines in New England - 3406 was a CN engine but had a GT emblem on the tender and had been built for the original Grand Trunk Railway.

Photographed by Edward Ozog, April 22, 1956.
Added to the photo archive by Edward Ozog, August 5, 2009.
Railroad: Grand Trunk.
