Through the Notch

From China to Conway......Conway Scenic Railroad was the last leg of an electrical transformer move (411 tons) that originated with the manufacturer in China and ended the Conway substation of Public Service of NH. A Schnabel car was used to haul the load. This was the first time that a freight train had journeyed through Crawford Notch since the early 1980s. Many railfans and the media turned out to watch its progress.

Photographed by Russ Seybold, June 20, 2009.
Added to the photo archive by Susan Logan, July 1, 2009.
Railroad: Conway Scenic.
