Wag the Train...

This classic "wig-wag" grade crossing signal was one of about a dozen remaining in Oregon at the time of this August 2001 photo.

It is located on the Port of Tillamook Bay RR in the small community of Timber, Ore., just east of the railroad's Coast Range summit at Cochran. It was one of three on the short line at the time.

This stretch of the POTB is east of the Salmonberry River canyon that was washed out in an intense Pacific storm in December 2007. POTB managers have since decided not to repair the out-of-service stretch at this time, effectively ending rail service to Tillamook.

Service will remain between Banks, where the POTB interchanges with the Portland & Western, and Cochran.
