#57

Amtrak #57, stalled in Illinois somewhere south of Chicago. This locomotive was leading the eastbound Cardinal to New York from Chicago, when about a half hour after our departure from Chicago, it blew its head gasket. Oil leaked freely out of the engine, stalled the locomotive, and made a huge mess. The train was delayed several hours while waiting for a replacement locomotive, and further delayed by signal replacements in Kentucky and West Virginia. The train finally arrived in New York ten and a half hours late.
