O&W Road at East Branch, NY

This overview of "downtown" East Branch, NY shows O&W Road (the slab of pavement to the right), which was also the right-of-way for the New York, Ontario, and Western RR. The decrepid white 3-story building seen in the distance was a hotel that at one time received scores of travellers who disembarked from O&W trains. The East Branch Station was located at approximately the same spot now occupied by the the red storage shed. The Delaware and Northern RR also interchanged with the O&W at this location. East Branch boasted a considerable straightaway for the O&W, and express passenger trains (as well as some freights!) could be counted on to really scorch the ballast while roaring through!
