Hudson, Mass.

This is a view of the former Central Mass/B&M line from Hudson heading south to the the former New Haven line from Providence to Fitchburg. These tracks left the main line in Hudson and intersected with the New Haven south of Marlboro. It is a walking trail now, and appears to be heavily used. Rail traffic beyond the factory on the left pretty much ended in the late 50's. Trains called at this factory until the line closed in the mid-80's.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

My understanding was this line never intersected with the "Agricultural Branch" to Fitchburg.
Dead-ended in Marlboro, separated by about 60 feet vertically from the other line.

The view is actually of the Marlborough Branch of the Fitchburg Railroad which ran from Acton down to Marlborough. The Central Mass Railroad ran through the north side of town. The last train into town was 1980 and at least during the 70's the train, a very short one mind you, would stop at the old diner on Main St. for lunch and then head back to Boston. They found a section of rail had been pulled out behind where Petco is now which made any travel to Marlborough impossible.
