Fall 2007 trackwork weekend: waiting for more ballast

A shuttle system was set up to bring stone ballast from Sheepscot up to the northern end of the line. Steam locomotive #10 (the fastest operating locomotive on the line) would bring the stone up the 1.6 miles from Sheepscot to Alna Center. At Alna Center, #10 would swap flatcars with diesel #52. The diesel would bring the loaded flatcar to the end of the line, while #10 would ferry the empty car back to Sheepscot.

Here we see #52 waiting on the siding at Alna Center with empty flatcar #126. This faltcar was recently built by the Museum.
