Shown is the abandoned railway crane just upstream from Niagara Falls' Horseshoe Falls. This crane was used once a year to lift and lower the outer trash racks for the Rankine Power Station. This prevented ice and debris from entering the penstocks potentially causing turbine damage at the power station. The crane, although long since operational, is left standing on the Canadian side of the Falls as a historical monument. If you look closely, on the far right you will see the "scow", a scuttled sand barge, which in 1918, resulted in the dramatic rescue of two workers who came close to going over Horseshoe Falls when the barge broke free of it's tow.
