A Broadway Encore...

Two F40PHs bring Amtrak's "Broadway Limited" under the wires into Harrisburg, Pa. On this May day in 1990, the "Broadway" has a fair-sized bit of express on the head end.

Although Conrail freights stopped using the catenary in 1981, Amtrak continued to employ it for locomotive changes until it began doing so at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. Amtrak "Keystone" regional trains also used the wires until converted to diesel power due to a shortage of electric "motors".

Today, "Keystone" trains are again using electric power as they run between Harrisburg and Philadelphia at speeds up to 110 MPH.
