The Amazing Race...Former SP&S 4-8-4 #700 isn't really racing that bicyclist, it just looks that way. The 1938-vintage Baldwin, owned by the city of Portland, Ore. since 1957, ran a series of excursions June 10 and 11, 2006 along the Oregon Pacific RR. The adjacent path is an extension of the Springwater Trail, which follows the right-of-way of the old East Portland Traction interurban route to Gresham and Estacada. This section of the trail, by the city's Oaks Park, passes over the site of the old rail spur where the 700 and former SP GS4 4-8-4 #4449 spent years on display before their individual restorations.
