A Real Boomer

In railroad lingo, a "boomer" is a worker who migrates from railroad to railroad. You could certainly apply the term to Reading & Northern CF7 #1503.

It began life as a Santa Fe F unit before going into that railroad's CF7 conversion program at Cleburne, Texas. Its second "career" as a hood unit included service on Pennsylvania shortlines Nittany & Bald Eagle and North Shore RR.

It was one of the first diesels on the Blue Mountain & Reading RR when that road began in the early 1980s, then was folded into the Reading & Northern roster when the larger road began operations.

It subsequently moved on to the Twin Cities & Western in Minnesota. It is shown here at the R&N headquarters complex at Port Clinton, Pa., northwest of Reading.
