Here is a public domain photo of the old P&O Roundhouse in Bartlett, N.H. This is the original P&O Roundhouse from 1872 and it has it's turntable still in place. It's 1891 and the Maine Central is now using it. Contrary to what has been written over the years, the P&O Roundhouse was never torn down, it was modified in 1891,1912,1936 and again in the early 1950's when the 5 & 6 stalls were removed. Some of the original P&O structure is still incorperated in the building today. A fair chunk of the Roundhouse is the original 1872 P&O structure and those sections can be easily found. You can see where other modifications were made over the years as well. If the State would fix the roof and the supports and a few other items, it could be made into a museum. People ask why does Conway Scenic RR not use it? They have a roundhouse that they own, for a small railroad that has such a small crew, why use it. Also if your leasing something why should you flip the bill for repairing the building and reativating it? There are only 3-4 P&O structures left in existance and one of the few MEC Roundhouses left.
