Chasing a Ghost...Railroad (1 of 57)We begin our tour of the old Central New England Rwy. in Bloomfield on, what is today, the modern-day Central New England, operated by A. J. Belliveau. Gee, I wonder how he came up with THAT name? This, the so-called Griffins branch, is the easternmost remnant of a railroad that once comprised several hundred miles of track, and reached to Campbell Hall, NY. Origionally chartered as the Connecticut Western RR in 1866, it was reorganized, as many early railroads were, in 1881 as the Hartford & Connecticut Western. The CW ran as far west as State Line (NY), where it connected with the Dutchess & Connecticut, itself later reorganized as the Newburgh, Dutchess & Connecticut, and the New York & Harlem RR at Millerton, NY.
