South Abutment, Esopus Bridge, Kaaterskill Branch

This is a view of the south abutment of the former bridge over the Esopus in Phoenicia, NY, where the Kaaterskill branch to Hunter, Tannersville, and Haines Falls began. The bridge was removed in August, 1940.

Luckily the main line of the U&D has been preserved in Phoenicia, and the Catskill Mountain RR operates a tourist train only a short distance from this abandoned branch.
