Lafarge GE 50-ton side rod at Sugar Creek, MO

A derelict Lafarge GE 50-ton side rod locomotive sits near Lafarge's now-decommissioned "Sugar Creek I" cement plant in Sugar Creek, MO (suburb of Kansas City). This unit was built in 5/49 (builder# 29934) for Missouri Portland Cement, the original operator of the Sugar Creek facility.

The new "Sugar Creek II" facility, just over the hill in the background, produces about 1 million tons of cement annually today.
