Q409 & Q171 at St.Denis, Md. on CSX. I take too many pictures. On this day the 10 trains we watched and the 1GB of memory in by camera resulted in 400 or so photos. I thought the following sequence of Q409 (on the middle track) and slower Q171 on the right track were interesting.
They have both just rounded the bend at Halethorpe about a 1.5 miles east of the MARC platfrom where this series of photos is taken from. A race?! Well sort of.
If you look closely you'll see 3 signal bridges. The old cross overs & related interlocking are a mile or more away at Halethorpe between the most distant pair of signals. The lights on the middle bridge will come on in a monent. Just behind the yellow MOW machine in the center of the picture is old 'HX' tower, long empty. http://www.bullsheet.com/news/towers1958.html
The 'nearby' set of signals in this frame will look east away from the camera toward Baltimore when they are tunred on.
