Amtrak visits East Fitchburg in 1996

Amtrak #194, designated as a GP40TC at the time, lends a hand to the MBTA in this shot, taken at the East Fitchburg layover facilities in March of 1996.

This unit helped out with Northside commuter runs for several months in early 1996, and also spent time on MBTA work trains and school trains during the first part of 1996. According to reports at the time, this unit's cab was apparently very cold and drafty.

Amtrak has since renumbered this engine to #522 and redesignated it as a GP40H. It started life as Canadian National #602 in 1966 and then spent many years on GO Transit in Toronto before going to Amtrak in 1988.
