A birds eye view of east portal of the Hoosac Tunnel

Here is the view as seen by the surveyors in 1866 while surveying the line for the construction of the Hoosac Tunnel. The iron stakes in the ledge are all that is left of the "lining tower" built to support the surveyors equipment. This picture was taken from the hill across the Deerfield River Valley called "Rowes Neck". Although you cannot see the east portal now because of vegetation, you can see the parking area below.
