This steeplecab electric locomotive is Commonwealth Edison #4, built by General Electric in 1911. Its design is unusual in that buffering forces are directed through the truck frames via an articulated joint; the body simply sits atop the trucks. Only three GE steeplecabs of this design were ever built. This unit has been at the Illinois Railway Museum since 1962 and is operational.
