Big shopsGovernment of Canada grain hopper in the roundhouse stall. They were able to get about 3 of the 4 hoppers on their train into the roundhouse as they shoved 6148 into the adjacent shops. The shops in Victoria handled all the work on the steamers and diesels until 1955 when the Wellcox yard opened. After that only 5 locomotives and usually two Budd Cars were kept in Victoria, by 1990 only one locomotive was assigned to Victoria, the SW8 that was used as a yard switcher and worked the Store St. trackage. In 1992 Store St. service ended and the SW8 was sent elsewhere on CP. After 1992, all motive power except the Budd RDC's was based out of and serviced at the Wellcox yard in Nanaimo. Power was still stored overnight at Victoria when the Victoria Turn came down at night and headed back to Nanaimo the next morning(after the Budd Cars). Today the shops are used only to serve the Budd RDC's used on VIA Rail trains 199/198. Nine of the ten stalls have been condemmed, tracks have been removed from stalls 5-10, and the roof has collapsed over the last three stalls(8, 9, and 10). The stall that the Budd is being shoved into is stall no. 1, the stalls were numbered from right to left.
