MNCW Switch Tamper at Wilton CT (WILT)

This MOW vehicle is a tamper. The steel fingers on the pods on the front get stuck into the ballast on either side of a tie and then they vibrate very quickly, pushing ballast under the ties. This supports the track better, and offers a much smoother ride.

It was waiting in the siding at WILT in Wilton CT awaiting 1855 to go south so he can go north to Danbury (DAN)
