Let's see... how have things changed in South Station since this photo was snapped in 1954? The low-level platforms have been replaced by high-levels for Amtrak and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority service. The track layout has completely changed - many fewer tracks now, but still some double-slip switches. Fifty years ago, there were at least 17 terminal tracks. The Gillette Razor Co. plant wasn't even a gleam in anyone's eye yet, nor was the U.S. Post Office. At the far left, Kneeland Street now exists where the Railway Express Agency had a large terminal with tracks pointing into the building, not parallel.
