The New Haven's J-1 class engines were freight haulers. The 2-8-2s roamed the branch lines after they were bumped off main-line jobs. 3020's service days were over, and it rested inside Charles Street Roundhouse in Providence, R.I. until it moved outdoors. Most likely the next time it moved was to go to the scrappers. Peter Lynch writes in his book, "New Haven Railroad" (2003:MBI Publishing, St. Paul), the Class J-1 Mikados were the first group of heavy tonnage steam locomotives the New Haven purchased, in 1918. Does anyone know who the scrappers were, and when they cut up 3020? The exposure was about 20-30 seconds on Kodak Pan film. Ca. 1953.
