East Side Tunnel in Providence, R.I. was unique because unlike most holes in the ground, its western end was curved. It also had permanently displayed, non-interlocked restricting signals displayed along its walls near the exit points for traffic moving with the established current of traffic. In short, if an engineer were traveling east on track 1, he would get the signal on the wall to the right side. This train is heading east. Ca. 1954.
