Back side of the spiker and anchor teams

The anchor team places and hammers in the rail anchors which prevent the rails from sliding too much, as the rails expand and contract with the heat.

As you can see the NECR went out and had them change an amount of ties (dark ballast is where a tie was changed). Now it is easy to see why the NECR was running with slow orders in this area, for the last year plus.

2-3 weeks prior a road railer placed a bundle of ties (16 ties per bundle) approximately every 500 feet down the mainline, from Willimantic north along the main, not sure how far they went, but at least up to Mansfield depot.
