Westbound Windsor and Hantsport freight, near Port Williams, Nova Scotia

Westbound W&H freight bound for New Minas. We are approaching Port Williams. Note the fertile plain, land reclaimed from the sea (Minas Basin) by the Acadians. They used a series of dikes, still in use, to accomplish this. Note the 85 Lb rail, but 30mph is the posted limit.

Photographed by Geoffrey Pohanka, July 27, 1996.
Added to the photo archive December 24, 2001.
Railroad: Windsor & Hantsport.
