Home Sweet Home

This old fridge car was converted into a home, it sits on the wye that runs behind the engine shed at CSRR. The car has a plaque that reads as followes:

Bangor & Aroostook # 7574

This insulated refrigerator car was built in 1953 for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad by Pacific Car & Foundry. This car, and hundreds like it, were used to transport state of Maine potatoes to destinations throughout the United States. The car was once equiped with ice bunkers and fans to circulate cool air over the sacks of potations. In the winter months, portable kerosene heaters were placed in the bunkers to keep the potatoes from freezing.

The car's renovated interior provides a unique vacation home for it's owners - Roger and Ruth Robar of Libson N.H.
