This former NS standard cab GE C40-8 now labeled BERX sits in the yard not running looking like it just came out of storage has a string of hoppers behind it. Does anyone know the plans for this unit? It looks like PW might be picking it up. Note the plaque on the nose, does anybody recognize it?

Fleur de LIS (?)

Posted by Bruce Macdonald on 2024-05-13 06:57:24

The Fleur de Lis is the symbol of the unit's last owner New Orleans Public Belt RR. Apparently NOPB acquired 4 ex-NS C40-8s from GE leasing (#4001-#4004) in 2018 and retired them in 2020 when the RR received 8 GP38-2 units. After being in storage for 3 years, the 4 C40-8s were acquired by September 2023 and stored at East Deerfield. Maybe P&W will take this unit to its Plainfield CT paint shop for a fresh coat of G&W orange?

Thanks John for the information and the correction on the locomotive model. I knew somebody would know.
