The View From The Stump...Union Pacific ES44AC #5263 leads an eastbound stack train passing the former Northern Pacific depot in Chehalis, Wash. on the BNSF Seattle Sub.
The view is from an observation platform on the north side of the depot, which is now the Lewis County Historical Museum.
The platform is built over the "Mckinley Stump", the remnants of an old growth Douglas Fir tree harvested in nearby Pe Ell, Wash. in 1901. The sign next to the stump describes it as having a base diameter of 12 feet, 6 inches.
