LIRR #444 S2 w/ carfloat reacher car; Bay Ridge Yard, Brooklyn, NYHere is a rather nice image of LIRR S2 #444 and carfloat reacher car working at the throat of the Bay Ridge Yard and floatbridges located in Brooklyn, NY. The float bridges are to the right, and the locomotive is facing east.
While I am not a particularly avid fan of the LIRR, this image does appeal to my interests in New York Rail-Marine a/k/a carfloating operations.
I was able to identify the exact location where this photo was taken in the raw uncropped version of this image. (The image posted is zoomed and cropped on the locomotive. Using houses in the background of the original image and comparing to aerial images of MS Live Search, I was able to pinpoint the location. However, this vantage point no longer exists as an apartment complex was built upon the location at 65th Street and 3rd Avenue, where the right of way is now "tunneled over".
The track in the bottom right corner in front of the fence belongs to the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
