Visitor Comments about this Photo:All praise & honor for New Haven Alco’s and our most intrepid photographer of this period!!!!! Posted by Stephen Demboske on 2022-12-18 05:55:38 Great historic capture! The Wikipedia article on Alco's DL-109 is a fascinating read. Apparently NH got the initial batch of DL-109s built during WWII for dual purpose freight at night / passenger in the day use. NH had the largest batch of DL-109s (60) and the last unit (relegated to power plant use in the '60s) was scrapped in 1970. Also 3 DL-109s were leased to BAR to haul potatoes in Maine in the winter of '53! Posted by John Barlow on 2022-12-18 07:32:26 You must be logged on to post comments. |
