MEC 505 at River Road in Bow...CSX Contractors have performed some serious home improvement on the Perini Siding in Bow recently. New ballast, new ties, rail that doesn't sink into the mud anymore. The major work also included the installation of a new north end switch, making this siding functional on both ends.
The result, the Nashua Crews no longer have to take the loaded Ciment Quebec hoppers to Concord to runaround, and bring them back to Bow to spot the loads from the south end of the Perini Siding. On the north trip, the Crews can easily shove in the loaded cars, while saving quite a bit of time in the process. Capacity has increased too, as there were about 30 hoppers in view.
MEC 505, along with 507, 515, 516, and 518 have been the regular power for the Nashua Crews for nearly a year now. These ASCES/ATC equipped 500's have the technology to run on MBTA commuter rail tracks as the Crews tend to pick up and drop off their cars in Lawrence Yard.
CSX has been working to make "These NH Rails" great again!!
